I think I can officially say Kyria is "sleeping through the night"!
Woo Hoo!!!!
It is still a pretty early morning, but I'd say 11pm to 5:30am is quite the acheivement!
Plus, this morning she probably would have made it to 6, but I was wide awake and getting antsy!
I read that babies can begin sleeping the same amount of hours through the night that they are old (in weeks). So far Kyria has been about a week behind as far as this goes. Sure enough this weekend she will be 7 weeks, but she is just now getting to 6 hours. I am still a super-proud momma!
I feel like since she was born a couple weeks early and only weighed 6lbs 12 oz that gives her a nice excuse for being a little behind those 9lb babies! :) Of course all babies will develop at different rates.
So I'm sure some of you may be wondering if I lean towards a strict clock directed schedule, or more of an attachment style parenting where Kyria determines the schedule (or lack thereof). Well . . . I try not to go to extremes. I think the Bible warns us of this.
"Watch the path of your feet
And all your ways will be established.
And all your ways will be established.
Do not turn to the right nor to the left;
Turn your foot from evil. "
Turn your foot from evil. "
~ Proverbs 4:26-27
For the first two weeks I pretty much just focused on getting Kyria full feedings. She ate every 2-4 hours. At three weeks, I decided I should probably try to get a nice routine going. At this point, I decided when I wanted our first feeding, and last feeding of the day to be. The rest of the day is pretty flexible, but her feedings are always within 30 minutes of her typical time. I love this system! It allows me to have a pretty good idea of when she will be asleep, and when she will be awake. This helps me make plans (like the Dr. appointment I have today, or visiting friends, or running errands), and gives me lots of flexibility. At the same time, I am not completely consumed with the clock.
Also, while Kyria may be "behind" a bit on her night time sleep compared to other babies. She is quite advanced in other areas! She has had an amazing alertness since she was born. Her waketime is impressive! She is also so strong! She has been holding her head up nice since week 2! Check out this picture of her at 1 MONTH (in my original post I had said two months, and my sweet photographer friend informed me it was one month! Man she is even better than I thought! lol) - holding her head up all by herself!
And this is the most impressive part: She has been rolling over from her tummy to her back for 4 weeks (yeah for tummy time!)! No Kidding! At first, I thought it must have just been an accident, but since then she has done it at least ten times! Crazy! I looked it up, and that is supposed to be an advanced move for a 3 month old!
Skyler has a video of this on his phone . . .when he gets home tonight I will try to link it here! :)

Yay for mom and baby! Also, another good verse for us parents is Proverbs 22:6
ReplyDeleteI like this one, and they even have it upon the wall in one of the rooms at my midwife center :)
Jaclyn I also love that verse! I had it up in my classroom since the first year I started teaching! :)
