Recipe: Whole Wheat Waffles

I love waffles!  My husband and I have had a waffle maker the whole time we've been married, but never used it!  We try to eat pretty healthy at home, and waffles never seem like a good choice.  Plus, when things get busy and we do slack a little on eating healthy, homemade waffles just seem like too much work!  A couple weeks ago, I was really in the mood for something sweet.  Waffles sounded amazing!  So Skyler called up his grandma for the recipe!  We used white flour.  It was a little faster this way since we wouldn't have to grind up our wheat berries.  To be honest, I had my doubts about whole wheat waffles anyway.  Once, we tried whole wheat pancakes . . . ugh!  I mean if your going to have pancakes do they really need to be whole wheat!?  The waffles were awesome!  However, last week, we decided to try to waffles with a mix of hard whole wheat berries, and soft.  The soft wheat berries are usually for pastries.  I was hoping this would make the wheat waffles a little more fluffy.  Sure enough, it did!  The waffles were amazing! To top it off we used butter, and pure maple syrup!  Now, obviously this was a sweet treat, but somehow I still felt like I was eating healthy! - I love it when that happens!! :)

Whole Wheat Waffles

Ingredients
(for about 4-6 waffles):

1 Cup flour (you can use white, whole wheat, or a mixture of both - which ever you prefer!)
1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg
Dash of salt
Milk to consistency

Directions:
Mix everything together!  Pour it on a waffle maker!
Wa La!  Yummy, Mostly Healthy, Waffles!
I like to add butter, and pure maple syrup to my waffles.
My husband like peanut butter and syrup.
I can't wait to try blueberry syrup.  You just put blueberries and sugar in a pot, and heat 'em up on the stove!  Then drizzle the syrup over the waffles!  You could also add blueberries to the ingredients above and have blueberry waffles!

How do you like your waffles!?

  1. these sound wonderful..they will be on the menu as soon as I get off my diet. I'm in the market for a grinder and a mixer...can't decide on the manual grinder or NutriMill.
